The football case for NC State remains attractive, but the overall weighting is not sufficient for premium status.
Virginia has important personnel issues. Starting receiver Rico Flores Jr. is out. Running back/return specialist Solomon Beebe is unavailable, while impact linebacker Kam Robinson's return from a torn ACL remains an important variable.
NC State has the established quarterback in CJ Bailey, who exceeded 3,000 passing yards last season with a 25-to-9 touchdown/interception ratio.
However, 53% of spread bets are already taking NC State, so this is not a contrarian position. Virginia also possesses an extremely experienced offensive line protecting transfer quarterback Beau Pribula.
The personnel argument favors taking the points, but the complete premium-bet framework does not produce enough separation.
